New Special Education Coaches Announced

Shari Horrocks, Amy King and Kari Gatlin have been chosen as special education instructional coaches.
Shari has been teaching in Provo School District for over 28 years. She started at Timpanogos Elementary as a special education teacher and was also the ESL coordinator, Title One Coordinator and Special Ed Facilitator. For the past six years she has been the Special Ed Facilitator at Amelia Earhart Elementary. She has a bachelors degree in Special Education from BYU and a Masters of Education from National University of California. She loves trying new restaurants, gardening and traveling the world.
Amy has been teaching in special education for 15 years, 10 of those being here in the Provo school district at Edgemont Elementary. She has been the special programs facilitator for 7 years and has had the opportunity to mentor 6 BYU interns and 2 teachers on ARL (alternate route to licensure) during that time. Last year, she received the Excellence in Mentoring Award from BYU. She is excited to continue her work with Provo district and loves working with the great teachers, staff and parents that reside in this area.
Kari Parent Gatlin has worked for Provo City School District for over 20 years in special education. After completing a liberal arts degree from Brigham Young University, Kari decided to help others after seeing how public education helped her sister with Down Syndrome. She pursued a teaching license at Utah State University and later received her M.Ed. from Southern Utah University. Kari has served in a variety of positions on various campuses including paraprofessional, post high transition specialist, special education teacher and NHS advisor at Provo High School and special education facilitator at Provo High and Lakeview. Kari shares students’ excitement when they make sufficient progress to exit special education services and loves visiting with former students she meets while out and about in the community.
